Simply put (the long version)

I moved to Edmonton in 1976 at the age of 15 to work in the oilfield. When I was 19 I drove a taxi to support myself while taking high school courses, doing so I was able to build a small fleet of taxi's that enabled me to start a pizza restaurant in 1984. That adventure did not turn out well, so I sold the business at a loss and decided that it was time to get a formal education in business. I started taking non-credit classes at NAIT. Eventually I was granted permission to take credit courses in the evenings and was inspired, encouraged and challenged by several of the instructors. In the spring of 1987 I had a deep discussion with one of the instructors and decided that I would attend full time starting in the fall.

I had an agreement to sell my taxi fleet for September 1, 1987. My intentions were to maximize my earnings by operating my fleet right up to the weekend before school started. Things were going as planned until the devastating tornado struck on July 31. I drove a customer out to Evergreen Trailer Park and was forever changed by the destruction that I saw and the resilience of the residents to carry on. I immediately volunteered my time and my taxi's to transport victims to doctor appointments, physio, places of worship and anywhere else the residents needed to go. Lawrence Decore had it right when he called Edmonton "City of Champions".

Shortly after I sold the taxis, I achieved my Accounting Diploma then went to work in public practice and took courses to achieve a Marketing Management Diploma.  In 1994 I moved to Whitehorse to work as a comptroller in a multi-million dollar construction company. In 1997 I visited Edmonton, met my wife, and moved back. I returned to taxi driving and went back to school to get a Bachelor of Applied Business at NAIT. I am now running my own business of transportation, specializing in individuals with medical and behavioural issues and cognitive impairments. This is my main business which has grown +600% since inception in 2001.

 

I have been married to the same lovely woman for 18 years and would do it over again in a heartbeat. We have three wonderful children who have the most amazing personalities and with whom we get to have creative, insightful, and sometimes unusual discussions.

We moved to Ward 1 in 1999 to rent a great townhouse in Aldergrove then purchased a home in Britannia-Youngstown 2001 in which we still reside. We LOVE our ward and all it has to offer. I have served on multiple nonprofit boards in various positions.
